Antonio López is an artist who incarnates a particular way to see and to mean the painting and the sculpture, since is one of the most original and important plastic creators of our time.
He was born in Tomelloso, 6th January 1936. He approaches painting thanks to his uncle Antonio López Torres. In the 1949 he moved to Madrid, where he attended the school of Fine Arts; between 1950 and 1955 follow painting courses at the Advanced School of Fine Arts of Saint Fernando di Madrid. Finished his studies he began work in Tomelloso and Madrid until 1960. A year after, he married Maria Moreno from which will have two daughters, Maria and Carmen.
Between 1964 and the 1969 he teach as a university professor in charge at the Preparatorio di Colorito in the School of Fine Arts of Saint Fernando. In the 90s he met the director Víctor Erice with which he collaborates for the full length movie "El sol del membrillo" passing from the virtual and static dynamism of the painting and sculpture, to the real dynamism of the uninterrupted succession of the cinematographic images. In January of 1993 he was nominated member of the Real Academy of Fine Arts of Saint Fernando. His works, paintings and sculptures, have always been the product of an intellectual operation that perceives the shape and the beauty due to a detailed study and to a good hand. The taste for a rappresentation of the reality in its direct and faithful shape, had been very important for the job of Antonio López García, mostly in the 60s.
Towards the end of the 60s and the beginning of the 70s, the artworks of Antonio López García were more to austere, avoiding the fairy look, whether in the themes or whether in the use of the painting material, where the color and the light were getting stronger, turning the artist in a painter of the light that slips over the smooth or wrinkled surface of the objects, that vanishes or cut out the volumes of the figures as seen in an aerial effect. Fascinated from the windows and half-open doors, for its relation of interior/esterior relationship, the painter seems to take a constant travel around its room, like an explorer of the angles of its house. In his paintings and sculptures the protagonists are familiar's life scenes, authentic landscapes even if unreal, immensity of the metropoli characterized by its buildings, bridges and views therefore the spaces and the light are captured in all their totality, brightness and intensity. Through his artworks Antonio López García has shown the passion for this job, the intensity of the human being,... where nothing seems less real that the same truth in which his transcendence surpasses the mere belongings, the illusion of the plastic shape.
